Taking a Bite Out of Hunger
A Junior High Mission Trip
Valley Community Presbyterian Church
did something last Sunday, June 15th, that
was important to the
Homestead Presbytery. There was a
commissioning service for our junior high mission trip
taking place June 18-22. The theme for our mission trip
is "Valley Youth: Taking a Bite Out of Hunger".
We
are traveling through the Homestead Presbytery on
Wednesday, June 18th and should arrive in Lincoln in
just enough time to eat dinner and play with some of the
kids at a local food kitchen. We will stay around the
Lincoln
area for the next two days working with various agencies
dealing with the issue of hunger.
On
Saturday, we will wake and visit the local farmers
market for our breakfast and see the delicious food that
Nebraska offers. We will then travel to Northern
Homestead in the afternoon for an activity in
Niobrara
State Park.
We are hoping to have the opportunity to sample new food
-- at least new to some. On Sunday, we will worship at
the Presbyterian Church in
Niobrara and head home.
Our
host church in
Lincoln is
Eastridge Presbyterian Church.
Reverend Jim Crelin was
extraordinarily helpful in making this trip happen.
At Valley we are really proud of this group of young
people. They work hard, play hard, and approach
challenges with open minds and open hearts. Please keep
them in your thoughts and prayers this coming week – pray
for their safety and that they see the hand of God in
their adventures in Homestead Presbytery.
