Worship Sundays @ 9:30 am

Upcoming Valley Activities

Find out what's happening in the Valley!

Valley Activities as of July 21, 2019

What are the services like?

Our Sunday worship service begins at 9:30 am in the summers (late May to early September), and 10:00 am during the church program year (early September to late May). A variety of music is offered; we like to mix things up! Communion is typically served the first Sunday of the month. Worship is family-friendly and includes a children's sermon. After the children's sermon, children may attend faith formation classes led by trusted staff and adult teachers, or remain in worship.

What should I do when I arrive?

When you enter the main doors off the parking lot, to the right are the coat room and the stairs going up to the sanctuary, where the services are held. To the left are the restrooms and fellowship hall, where coffee will be brewing. To the left is also the elevator that provides accessibility to the upper level and sanctuary.

We will probably introduce ourselves to you, but visitors are not specifically called out during the service. After each service, enjoy coffee and pastries, chat with members and worship leaders, and take a look around. Consider joining us for mission and fellowship opportunities at the sign-up table. If you have young children or teens, check out the spaces for them, meet the directors on staff and see what our Christian Education and Youth programs have to offer. Should there be a special brunch or meal that day, join us!

What accommodations does Valley provide?

In addition to elevators, we also provide:
+ a family bathroom on the lower level behind the youth space
+ wheelchair-accessible bathrooms on both floors
+ open spaces in some pews that fit wheelchairs and walkers
+ an audio system for those with hearing impairments
+ large print bulletins
+ noise-blocking headphones for kids with sensitivities to noise (in a box in the lower level coat room)
+ comfortable couches and soft chairs in the Narthex for people who can't (or don't want to!) sit in pews for long periods
+ snack modifications for children with allergies

What should I wear?

Wear what makes you comfortable. If you like to dress up, then dress up. If you prefer jeans, then that's what you should wear. No matter how you dress, there will likely be plenty of people dressed just as you are.

Are children welcome at Valley?

Absolutely! Children 4th grade and older are encouraged to participate in the entire worship service. Their faith formation takes place during youth time on Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m (10 evenings every fall, 10 evenings every spring). There are faith formation classes for children 3 years old through 3rd grade during worship following the children's sermon. Children are returned to the Sanctuary during the last hymn. Our youngest children can stay in worship and enjoy our Crawlers Zone in the Sanctuary or, if your family chooses, they may go to the nursery, which is professionally staffed. You will find the nursery on the upper level down the hall from the restrooms.

We have Fellowship Time between worship services in the Fellowship Hall where there are mats and toys. There is also a playground in full view of the Fellowship Hall for use in nice weather.

We look forward to seeing your family!

We are part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denomination.

We were officially organized on May 20, 1951 when Golden Valley and the surrounding suburbs were first growing in the post-war building boom.

The original chapel, now the Cornerstone Room, was built in 1952.

The Fellowship Hall was added in 1957.

The current sanctuary was added in 1965.

The Education wing was added in 1988.

The current sanctuary was built with space for an organ which took over 40 years to arrive. Read more about the history of our organ.

Valley Church currently has almost 500 members.

Our neighborhood in Golden Valley is experiencing a resurgence of young families.
